John Mullaney and Ann Duff(e)y

We sent for Peter’s birth certficate, and this told us that his mother was Ann Mallany, formerly Duffy, and that he was born in Gleave Street, Heaton Norris on 30 June 1855.

Along the way, we have located what we believe to be the correct family in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census records.  Click here to see a summary of the information, and look at the variations in spelling, ages and birthplaces!

John and Ann were  married on 21 October 1852, at the church of Saints Philip and James, Edgeley, Stockport.  Their fathers were John Mullaney and Thomas Duffey (both labourers), (John Mullaney shown as deceased). Click here to see their marriage certificate.

The next step is to try to find their birth records in Ireland.

John died on 8 March 1891, in the canal at Bilston Road canal bridge in Wolverhampton.  Click here  to see a copy of his death certificate.  Ann died on 6 January, 1892 at 52 Commercial Road, Wolverhampton.  Click here to see a copy of her death certificate.   There may also be  a Macclesfield connection with Peter’s sister Mary Ann, who may appear on an 1891 census return for a Macclesfield address - watch this space!!
