'A MAN DROWNED IN WOLVERHAMPTON'
‘John Mullaney (59), of 52, Commercial-road, Wolverhampton, left his home about nine o'clock on Saturday night, saying he was going to the Bridge Inn, Bilston-road. He was, it is stated, under the influence of drink at the time, and as he did not return home inquiries were made respecting him. On Sunday morning Police constable Harvey received information that a man's hat and vest had been found on the canal side, near the Bilston-road bridge. He dragged the water, and found the body of Mullaney in about six feet of water. He got it out, and had it removed to the mortuary.'
