
Mullaneys in Wolverhampton

Here are some photographs taken on 2 July 2005, when we visited Wolverhampton, where the Mullaneys lived after they left Stockport. They lived in the south-eastern part of Wolverhampton, and the old houses, grouped around communal courts have now vanished, but the streets remain.

The Mullaney family were living at 52 Warwick Street at the time of the 1881 census, taken on April 3/4 that year.

Bilston Road Canal Bridge, where John Mullaney died on 8 March 1891. The cause of death on his death certificate reads ‘Found dead in canal at Bilston Road Bridge. Drowned himself whilst in a state of temporary insanity’. A Coroner's inquest was held on 9 March 1891. Click here to see a copy of the newspaper report of his death.
